BIO-SCIENCE ACTIVITIES

Through the years of contract crop research, Atlantic AgriTech Inc. has developed expertise in the screening and evaluation of products for pest control. This expertise, coupled with the recent increased interest in identification of bioactive compounds for pest management has led Atlantic AgriTech Inc. to pursue identification and development of proprietary IP in the area of bioactive pesticides. Atlantic AgriTech Inc. wishes to become an early-stage development company, focused on bioprospecting to lead to the discovery and development of new bioproducts, specifically for agricultural crop production.

The focus of the initiative will include investigation into possible biopesticides, which purportedly have weed, disease or insect pest control or suppression potential. The general concept of searching for bioactive compounds for crop production is not uncommon, however efforts have not always been in a scientific manner (particularly in other countries like the United States where efficacy data is not required for registration). As a result, there are many products on the market that have not yet been fully investigated to accurately determine the extent of their usefulness. Through our existing contacts in the industry, as well as through new activities, we intend to tap into new and previously under-researched actives to identify and conduct early stage proof of concept and basic formulation research. It is our intent to license or sell the resulting IP to organizations with the resources (or partner with them) to commercialize and market the product. Although prospecting is a large aspect of this project, we already have access to several promising technologies.

Through this project, Atlantic AgriTech Inc has the potential of developing environmentally sound solutions to local and global crop production issues. Through a scientific approach to evaluating and developing bioactive compounds, Atlantic AgriTech Inc. is confident that we can identify and sell innovative technologies to organizations with the resources to fully develop and market them. This project has the potential to add value to the Prince Edward Island economy in two main ways: by complimenting the expanding biotechnology sector, and by contributing to the Island economy by developing products, technologies and intellectual property locally to be sold globally.
