Nitrate Research

Atlantic AgriTech Inc. is currently several diverse research trials to evaluate the effects of agricultural fertilizers and other practices on nitrate loading of soils and waters. These trials are designed to identify optimum timing and rate of application of various nitrogen-containing fertilizers to minimize nitrate leaching to groundwater. 

Trials include:

- evaluation of the effectiveness and accuracy of various methods of analyzing for soil and water nitrate levels,

- evaluation of Potato Calculator software for making nitrogen fertilizer recommendations,

- evaluation of various forms of nitrogen fertilizer, including slow-release forms, for minimizing nitrate leaching,

- assessment of fall tillage of legume crops for effects on nitrate leaching, and

- comparison of various fall cover crops for holding nitrate in the soil and minimizing leaching potential.
