Potato Calculator Trial

Started June 2007The Potato Calculator (PC) is a software package developed in New Zealand by the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry with support from potato growers, processors and Crop and Food Research. It is a computer model that can assist potato growers in managing nitrogen to maximize yield while minimizing applications, and thus potential for leaching. The model is able to recommend application rates and predict the amount of leaching that may occur during the season, as well as what is left in the soil at the end of the season. Various weather and soil characteristics are used to recommend the optimal fertilizer rates. www.crop.cri.nz.
